Self Indulgent or Seriously Surrendered

There is no satisfying the eternal quest for finding significance through self indulgence. Can you imagine having no greater vision in life than turning your card into a Radio Flyer Wagon? Cool, but pitiful in terms of making our life count. I am sitting in Kentucky for a Board meeting to vision forward global impact in the name of Christ. Last evening while out walking I came across a beautiful statue and plaque commemorating the life of Francis Asbury.

Along with Thomas Coke Asbury was one of the first of two Bishops sent from England by John Wesley to lay wood to the fires of a Methodist Movement of around 1000 people who were living in this new frontier. Asbury could have stayed in the comforts of his native land and lives a wonderful and comfortable life as a preacher and a professor. But he did not!

Answering God’s call to surrender all Frank came to America and rolled up his sleeves. He travelled 270,000 miles on horseback. He ordained more than 4000 lay pastors and superintendents in 224 Annual Conferences. The Methodist Movement in America, barely 1000 when he arrived had climbed to 214,000 upon his death. His annual Salary? $64 per year! A life well lived is a life totally surrendered unto God! Will you join me in this season of total surrender to Jesus?

The Rescuers

Sunday was one of those days that I will remember forever. Not one but two 911 calls in one service! At 9:30 am a normally vibrant Denise just fell right out of her pew into the aisle. She was having an asthma attack and problems breathing. Our people responded brilliantly; like people who rushed to care as if it was a programmed reaction.

In just a few minutes the EMT first responders were there helping her and as I tried to remain calm and keep us centered in God’s peace and presence amidst the storm. I remember thinking, these paramedics got here super fast. I was later informed that they were already on site treating another lady who had fallen down the steps just like two minutes before. They were already on site when the second call was called in and just simply rushed upstairs.

God is good. Good to respond, good to care, good to give us a comforting hand or lift just when we think crisis and storm will overtake us. And God is good to use us as His instrument to extend such. The beauty of the Body of Christ is all around us at school, church, work, etc. It is in the form of those willing to be the hands and feet of Christ to model what Jesus modeled as the original first responder on the cross. Thank you Jesus for caring for us and thank you for inviting us to make our life super meaningful in responding to care for others! Psalm 19

Keep On Loving

Loving Like Jesus

A picture is worth a thousand words they say! What a beautiful  hand painted mural downstairs in our children’s worship area at Mount Pisgah by some really talented and loving big people. The adults of several genres have collaborated to create the most beautiful and joyous environment I have ever seen in a church.

Loving like Jesus should be a joy filled adventure, not a chore. God gives us the great opportunity to love God and love people as an act of worship but many Christians just don’t ever get it. Too consumed with self to give anything of value away as an investment in God and others. Today I pray that a big breakthrough occurs as we find together this invitation to joy and significance as an invitation from our loving God to us as the sons and daughters of God. Rather than bereave all that is not, we will choose to embrace the invitation. Maybe we will find that God gives faster than we can give away? What do you think?  Be Blessed today and choose joy!!! Joy to the World, the Lord has come….
