There is nothing quite like good news. Good news lifts the spirits, soothes the soul, and often invites us to smile and celebrate. Good news is a blessing to God who beheld His creation and celebrated that it was good!
January has been a marvelous month of good news as we continue to be disciples of Jesus Christ making disciples of Jesus in this movement of God called Mount Pisgah. This is an amazing community of faith that is 185 years old and yet growing daily in our witness as salt and light to people near and those globally. We live in the tension of sharing relevantly and sharing faithfully God’s good news from the Scriptures that we find joy in stewarding.
I am particularly struck these days of how the Apostle Paul so presented the Gospel of Jesus Christ the Messiah in the book of Romans to the Jews and Gentiles with such positivity. He speaks of our identity as sinners in the past tense (while acknowledging we still sin and fall short of the glory of God) and invites his audience to embrace the positivity of living a new life in a new way as a new creation in Christ. In Romans 6:11 Paul shares the net effect of the transforming grace of God through faith in Christ, In the same way, count yourselves dead to sin but alive to God in Christ Jesus.
In a world where productivity seems to be the weightiest metric let me ask you to pause and ponder positivity. Every sinner in the hands of Christ can still be positive about the past, present and future because of God’s grace. Celebrate this day and share the good news that God has seeded in your heart and mind through the Holy Spirit. Tell your friends, celebrate with family, show the world this good news: In Christ we have moved from death to life and you can too!
