If you would like to awaken the deepest fibers of human resistance, just bring up the subject of God and money. For over 30 years of ministry, I have found that this subject ignites more resistance than any other subject when it comes to understanding our responsibility as disciples of Jesus called to steward life and all of life’s gifts.
Let’s play word association for a moment. I say April 15 and you think tax day (by the way the IRS due date this year is April 18 so maybe they are beginning to understand the concept of a little grace). But if I say God and money, then you think what? (take a moment and think…)
One of our pastors here asked the question this week, “What do you have that God didn’t give you?” Our immediate response is to thank God for the time, talent, and treasure but also to include how hard we have worked to get where we are. But if we really think about it, God created us with one thought in mind: to build the Kingdom of God. That means all that we are and all that we have are simply resources to accomplish God’s greater good. Join me this week in praying that as God leads to teach us how to live as disciples and stewards that our response would be reflection and not resistance. Just think what could happen if we chose to cooperate and live our life God’s way for God’s glory! If you would like to learn more check out http://godandmoney.net/
