Over the past few months I have witnessed an amazing display of loving disciples of Jesus serving others. It is an amazing witness to a key element of being a disciple of Jesus Christ. Loving actions in the name of Jesus that serve others affects them transformationally.
I am thinking of all the acts of love I have seen displayed by the Mount Pisgah Cooking team. I am not sure I even know how many people serve on that team under the capable leadership of Bob Daniels, but it appears that there are multiple dozens. Their countless acts of service in so many venues has touched and inspired many.
Consider this kind of love: they make a list, go to the market and purchase the food and supplies, prep the food, cook the food, serve an always delicious meal, clean up the mess, and go home knowing that the good tired that they feel is all for Jesus and connecting others to the love of God. And the people they serve are not only fed, they are inspired, loved, cared for, and often transformed.
I think this kind of love is what Jesus was referring to in John 13:34-35 when He said, “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.”
