I love this verse, it brings solace to me and calms my mind and troubled spirit. Not a week has gone by since my last blog post which was about the heartbreak of evil at work in a horrific act of terrorism in Orlando. Between blogs I tweeted to make a stand denouncing evil and terrorism as the terror in Istanbul came across the media.
Now, I am aware of no less than 5 more attacks in Baghdad, Saudi Arabia and Africa that have occurred just in the last two days. Two young and promising students who were a part of the Emory University family were murdered by Muslim extremists along with many others. Understand that we have an evil at work that is attacking people of all faiths including what the ISIS terrorists proclaim to be their own.
Think of the magnitude of such an attack during Ramadan in the second holiest city, Medina, in the entire Islamic faith, it is a new iteration of mind-boggling.
Yet Jesus insists we receive this unfailing promise…His peace that yields within us untroubled hearts and an absence of fear. Jesus we cry out to you as Peter did when the waves and the wind threatened to overtake him, “Save us”. No matter our skin color, gender, place of birth, or religious preference we pray let your promise of peace abide in us this day. We place our faith in you O Prince of Peace! Teach us to be strong and courageous to proclaim the good news of the gospel and to take seriously our charge to train and equip those you call us to reach to be disciples of Jesus making disciples of Jesus and passing the baton of victory, hope and peace. We trust in you O God to remove this form of evil from our midst and that it all be to your glory!
