Easter is a most wonderful time of the year! For the culture, it’s time to break out the pastel colors, the spring wardrobe and think of several really good reasons to be engaged in Easter Egg hunts and the consumption of chocolate. It’s also like super bowl weekend for the cultural Christian and a great opportunity to declare just what kind of fan of Jesus we are. But for the Christian follower of Christ, Easter is about God’s miraculous love, life-conquering sin, death, and how we respond to the resurrection of Jesus Christ.
A clear understanding of Easter begins with the gospel of God’s love story for us and His invitation to come and follow Jesus and experience the benefits of the resurrection both in this life and in the next. Jesus Christ did not die on the cross to be our consultant or confidant. He gave His life to be Lord of all.
Easter is God’s story and His love for us to script us in as people worth rescuing and blessing. One of my favorite quotes around the clarity of Easter and God’s invitation for us to respond comes from Kyle Idleman in his book, Not a Fan: Becoming a Completely Committed Follower of Jesus, “So in case someone left it out or forgot to mention it when they explained what it meant to be a Christian, let me be clear: There is no forgiveness without repentance. There is no salvation without surrender. There is no life without death. There is no believing without committing.” It is surprising just who pans out in the long haul of following Christ.
Christ is Risen, why remain amongst the mired down? Declare your love, commit your life, and follow Jesus, Lord of all!
