In Matthew 13, Jesus uses three amazing examples of the value of experiencing the Kingdom of heaven. One of those examples was around precious stones, specifically around the pearl of great price. Jesus said, “the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant seeking beautiful pearls, who, when he had found one pearl of great price, went and sold all that he had and bought it.
The image is one that is designed to awaken us to the value of a life with God and in Christ. Jesus boldly stated that it is worth sacrificing everything else to have it. As one who has pursued the Kingdom of heaven life for the past thirty-seven years, I can honestly attest to the promise of Jesus being true. As I think about this process, it has actually been more like God putting a string of pearls together. The longer I journey with Christ the more Christ adds.
Real life in Christ, plus life eternal, plus faithfulness, plus joy, plus peace…and God continues to string the precious together in my life as I make the journey following Him. Lately, I have been admiring the pearl of accountability that God gifted me many years ago in the presence of a few faithful men who speak truth into my life. Accountability is a good thing. In fact, I am convinced the root of accountability is love and that is why it is God’s love language. Never condemning nor critical, this gift is given for the purpose of realignment, restoration and the realization of grace given, received and extended.
My experience can best be described as embracing the pearl of great price and then beholding God make a string of pearls that are not just an adornment in my life, they are my life. That same promise is yours for the asking. Why don’t you join me in following Jesus?
