One of the most joyful elements of the Christmas season for me is time spent with family. The photo is an image of this years family gathering which fueled great conversations, memories made, and an abundance of stories chocked full of laughter. Equally important is the time spent remembering, often with tearful expressions, the trying times that God has seen us through. I love my family and love being with my family. It’s a gift from God.
However, I also realize that this time of year for many is really tough. Feelings of overwhelming loneliness, depression, and hopelessness are hard things to confess to anyone. It is no fun feeling alone. We have an opportunity to be helpful by loving God and loving people in real and meaningful ways.
It is one thing to do for, but so much more happens when we choose to be with. Our initial reaction is often to say, “I’m sorry” or “I’ll pray for you”. We mean well, but to take time to come alongside and affirm them as family to us is the very thing that God has done for us by taking on flesh in Christ Jesus.
Everyone, by God’s design, is intended to feel as a loved and significant child of God. Let’s do all we can do this Christmas season in affirming those around us as loved and very much a part of the family of God. Share the joy of the gladful anticipation of Christ coming in this Advent season and make our merry Christmas contagious!
