One of the benefits of the General Conference experience is the beauty of God’s creation to every eye in Portland. Though Spring and the bursts of blooms have long since passed in Atlanta it is in its prime here in the Pacific Northwest.
A few days back I stood at the International Rose Garden in downtown Portland looking over a miraculous display of thousands of roses I saw in the distance Mount Hood. Glorious Mount Hood was watching over the city like a watchman proud and pronounced. I was immediately reminded of Psalm 127:1, “Unless the Lord builds the house, those who build it labor in vain. Unless the Lord watches over the city, the watchman stays awake in vain.” (ESV)
My prayer today is that the Lord great and glorious, sovereign and provident over all creation watch over us and guide us in His will and way. Lord guide us in His truth just as Jesus promised the Holy Spirit in John 14. May we not be distracted by the temptation to be our own watchmen and definers of our own truth. Lead us now O great Jehovah! In Jesus’ name, Amen.
