Plenty. At least that is the typical response of people of all ages who represent the most prosperous and advanced culture to ever inhabit earth. We are in good company as history reveals even some of the greatest leaders of the past struggled with meaningful fears about life, love, and purpose.
Bruce Johnson, CEO at JHRanch, shared a couple of weeks ago of the absolute nature of the fears of our young people in America. Bruce shared that there are 3 major fears that bombard the minds of our teens: 1) The fear that I will never find my purpose in life, 2) The fear of losing or being abandoned by my parents, and 3) The fear that I will never find someone to love me. Wow! That’s a heavy load.
Psalm 16 reveals that even mighty King David struggled with a similar fear in wondering out loud, “Who will teach me the path of life?” Interestingly, he answered his own question with God’s help and leading and found that God not only can lead us in that path, but God and God alone completes us. Careers, achievements, and relationships are all important, but none of them complete us. Only God completes us as we find our only perfect relationship with God through Jesus Christ. And those who find themselves in Christ come to discover the most miraculous truth: We have no fear of anything because His great love has conquered all fears. This is the miraculous grace of God. Seize it and claim the joy and pleasures that only God can give. The grace David speaks of in Psalm 16.
